DESCRIPTION

This has always been the most commonly grown grape in the area for daily and family use. However, varietal Barbera has benefited from the revolutionary ageing in wood and is today a wine of excellent quality. Ruby red in colour, it shows a rich bouquet and flavours of red fruits and spices. In the mouth dry, this austere wine has a pronounced acid that is often softened by making it spend some time in oak.
It has become a renowned wine, especially in Piedmont. After ageing in wood, its traditional characteristics of colour, vibrant acidity and low tannine combine with a complexity that is very interesting.

The Barbera d’Alba DOC
has a wide, complex nose, with fruity notes that recall blackberry, cherry, strawberry and wild berry jam and spicy hints of cinnamon, vanilla and green pepper. Its full-bodied flavour reduces the acidity that is peculiar to the vine variety.

THE MANUFACTURER

Making the most of the expertise of their ancestors, Paolo and his father Roberto carry on all vineyard work passionately. Their farm is located in the Ciocchini area in the municipality of Novello.

The soil is mainly composed of clay here, facing to south-west, and allow for producing about 25,000 to 28,000 bottles a year.

Azienda Agricola Stra produces nine wines, amongst the most respected in the Langhe. The famous Barolo, the rare Nas-cetta del Comune di Novello, but also Dolcetto d’Alba, Barbera d’Alba and Nebbiolo Rosé. Stra also produces Brajas, a unique blend which is eagerly awaited every year by connoisseurs.

Both the winemaking activity and family life happens in the typical farmhouse where generations of Stras were born. It features some guestrooms too, and vegetables grown by the family within their garden are at disposal for the guests to pick freely.
